Marten Mickos joins Index as European Entrepreneur-in-Residence

Index Ventures, a leading venture capital firm today announced that Marten Mickos has joined the firm as a European Entrepreneur-in-Residence. Mickos will focus on seeking out new investment opportunities within the European technology market, helping to identify and evaluate companies on behalf of Index Ventures. Mr. Mickos also serves as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence for Benchmark Capital in Silicon Valley where he focuses on seeking out new opportunities in the U.S market."Index is great at finding the best European entrepreneurs who have a global outlook," said Mr. Mickos. "Europe is rich with entrepreneurial talent and it's a good time to be at forefront of seeking out and nurturing the next wave of exceptional European companies."

Most recently, Mickos served as Senior Vice President of Sun Micosystems' Database Group, a role he assumed following Sun's US$1B purchase of MySQL AB, which he led as CEO for seven years. Index Ventures was an early investor in MySQL. Mickos currently serves on the boards of RightScale and Mozilla Messaging. His previous experience includes multinational CEO and senior executive positions in his native Finland. In 2006, he received the Audemars Piguet European Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the Nokia Foundation Award.
