Sales Engineers play a vital role in uncovering the true business problems of our prospects and customers and designing solutions to solve their problems. We are customer-obsessed, pre-sales technical advisors who help customers unlock the full value of the Plaid products and network. We take pride in delivering customer value as well as revenue outcomes for Plaid. You’ll work closely with our SMB Sales team as the technical lead during the pre-sales process. You will be responsible for partnering with Account Executives, proactively pushing deals forward by overcoming technical objections and building solutions around Plaid products. You will ensure a successful transition to the post-sale stage of the customer lifecycle and partner with account teams to drive adoption of new products by existing customers. You will be expected to understand the Fintech ecosystem and how customers get value from Plaid.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead technical product lead for SMB accounts throughout the sales process
- Partner with Account Executives to demonstrate to prospects how Plaid can solve their problems, address their use cases and meet their technical requirements. You’ll design solutions and share best practices throughout the sales process.
- Work with our engineering, product and design teams to translate prospect feedback into meaningful product insights.
Requirements
- A strong sense of customer empathy
- A background that combines business experience, sales experience and technical acumen.
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to quickly understand new technologies and complex concepts
- Knowledge of web services, APIs, and related standards such as HTTP and REST.
- Knowledge of mobile and web application architecture specific to interfacing with API platforms
- Nice to have: Credit, Payments & Identity verification experience

The on-target earnings (OTE) for this position ranges from $128,592/year to $201,600/year encompassing all zones. The target OTE will vary based on the job's location.
Our geographic zones are as follows:
Zone 1 - San Francisco / New York City / Seattle
Zone 2 - Los Angeles / Washington DC / Austin / Boston / Sacramento / San Diego
Zone 3 - Atlanta / Portland / Chicago / Philadelphia / Denver / Miami / Dallas / Raleigh
Zone 4 - All other US cities
The OTE range listed for this full-time position includes commission, but excludes equity and benefits. The pay range shown on each job posting is the minimum and maximum target for new-hire salaries. Actual pay may be higher or lower depending on factors like skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
