Tebi’s mission is to help restaurants evolve their business. Today, most restaurant owners juggle 10+ different software subscriptions just to stay afloat. Tebi is evolving the space and bringing all the required tools to run your business into one elegant solution: Tebi OS.
Founded by Arnout Schuijff, co-founder of Adyen, and backed by €50 million in funding from Index Ventures & CapitalG, Tebi is rethinking restaurant tech from the ground up. By simplifying operations, we’re unlocking new levels of productivity and profitability, so restaurants can focus on what they do best: serving great food and creating memorable experiences.
About the role:
We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our AI & Insights team and help us transform complex data into actionable intelligence. You'll be at the forefront of discovery, exploring how we can use AI to unearth valuable insights, particularly within the finance sector.
You'll collaborate closely with product managers, operation teams and other engineers to bring innovative ideas to life, from initial concept to a production-ready system.
This is an ideal opportunity for a backend engineer with a good background in uncovering the transformative potential of AI within products. We have a vast collection of data of hospitality businesses. It is up to you to discover how AI can be used to analyze this data and generate useful and actionable insights for business owners.
Someone that is passionate about solving challenging problems in a fast-paced, evolving environment. You'll play a key part in shaping the team’s technical direction.
Responsibilities:
- Build, test, and ship end-to-end features across the stack—from APIs and data models to user interfaces
- Collaborate with designers and PMs to translate user needs into working, intuitive product experiences
- Own projects from concept to launch and beyond, balancing speed, quality, and scalability
- Improve system performance and reliability across frontend and backend systems
- Help evolve our codebase and technical architecture as we scale
- Contribute to shared tooling, component libraries, and best practices that level up the whole team
What you’ll need:
- 8+ years of professional experience as a backend engineer in a product-focused environment
- Experience with productizing AI and LLMs. You have a track record of using AI and LLMs in production.
- Deep expertise in at either Kotlin, Java, or Scala.
- Significant experience with distributed systems. You know how to build and maintain scalable, resilient services that work together.
- Experience with event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka). You understand the principles of asynchronous communication and can leverage event streams to build decoupled, responsive systems.
- Good experience of relational databases, such as Postgres.
- Comfortable working with APIs, relational databases, and docker
- A product mindset—you care about the why behind what you’re building and optimizing for user impact
- Ability to work collaboratively across functions and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A keen eye for detail and a sense of pride in crafting great user experiences
Nice to have:
- Experience working in early-stage startups or small teams
- Familiarity with real-time systems or offline-first mobile experiences
- Passion for the hospitality space and interest in improving tools for small businesses

What is Restaurant Software?
Restaurants and other merchants use various software systems such as Point of Sale (POS), Reservations, Kitchen Display Systems (KDS), Payments, Inventory, Staffing, and the list goes on. These systems all need to speak to each other which they frequently don’t. It’s a mess, and we are fixing it.
From buying a croissant at a cafe to having dinner with friends, it’s a €4 Trillion+ global market and a critical part of everyday life in today's economy.
