Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all. We’re searching for a Head of Exploration who will support current generation sensor programs and lead exploration of future sensing and perception opportunities.

In this role, you will

  • Work closely with our sensor and perception teams to understand our sensing capabilities and roadmap
  • Develop perspectives on where opportunities and gaps might be in our sensing capability and sensor strategy with a longer-term horizon in mind
  • Maintain relationships and intel across the sensor ecosystem including both established players and start-ups (chips, components, systems, software modules, etc.) for both existing and future products
  • Execute internal research and development of  automotive sensor technology
  • Design tests to validate the claims of external suppliers and make recommendations for future interaction
  • Surface high-impact findings to relevant Engineering leadership, keeping feedback loop going to influence Aurora’s sensor strategy
  • Actively manage our relationship with current sensor vendors to make sure those supplier are delivering to expectations
  • Help drive value to key engineering stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • Deep technical expertise in radar (architecture, systems, signal processing), equivalent to PhD plus 5 years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and launch complex hardware products
  • Depth of understanding in perception and simulation in autonomous systems
  • Ability to manage a team of subject matter experts and set technical direction of exploration in sensing
  • Strong ability to communicate (verbal and written) succinctly and effectively with engineering, external, partners, and Aurora’s leadership
  • Strong ownership and bias for action
