Who We Are

At Aurora, we’re on a mission to deliver the benefits of self-driving technology safely, quickly, and broadly. It all starts with the Aurora Driver, a platform created from industry-leading hardware and software and designed to adapt across a variety of vehicle types and industries.

We’re led by a team of self-driving luminaries, and we’ve forged strategic partnerships with leading transportation companies—including ride-hailing network Uber, truck-manufacturers PACCAR and Volvo Trucks, and the world’s largest automaker Toyota—setting us up to deliver the Aurora Driver in both trucks and passenger vehicles. We are funded by Amazon, Uber, T Rowe Price, and some of Silicon Valley’s best venture capital firms, including Sequoia, Greylock, and Index Ventures.

Aurora is in the best position to lead the self-driving space with a team of unparalleled depth and expertise, the technology to deliver, and the partnerships to build a transformative business for the long-term.

Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all. We’re searching for an Industrial Designer.  As an Industrial Designer on the Product team, you will develop and improve designs through an iterative process to meet objectives on projects that span industrial design, vehicle integration, and that support our vision to bring the autonomous driving experience to the world safely, quickly, and broadly.

In this role, you will

  • Collaborate with a diverse team of Industrial Designers, UX Researchers, Product Designers, and Brand Experience designers to discover solutions for the Aurora self driving hardware kits and self driving experience.
  • Create assets to communicate the direction of the Aurora self driving products and solutions.
  • Participate in the development of theme work from initial ideation to production release.
  • Produce design development and/or intent packages for production and fabrication.
  • Regularly review creative work with the team’s senior creative staff to get feedback on direction and ensure alignment with other activities in the group.
  • Work on production-level designs and work with vehicle OEMs to communicate design intent, insights, requirements, or principles.
  • Apply the design process (user research, brainstorm, concept development, prototyping, working with OEMs, etc.) across all of your work.
  • Participate in presentations or meetings as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 5+ years of design experience in related field.
  • Excellent storytelling and narrative skills, especially around your craft, as well as ability to articulate ideas in a clear and concise manner with strong presentation skills.
  • Strong visualization skills: from quick concept sketching to complete presentation sketches, 3D CAS sketch modeling (Alias, Blender or similar programs) to rendering (VRed or other similar programs).
  • Ability to approach design problems with creativity, innovation, and passion.
  • Excellent design skills, and eye for detail, highly motivated and collaborative.
  • Adept at time management and organization and able to work within tight time frames.
  • Knowledgeable in manufacturing and prototyping process and general construction and engineering principles.
