We are searching for Software Engineers to architect, design, and develop our teleoperations systems. Teleoperations at Aurora is a cross-functional role. The team collaborates closely with the motion planning, infrastructure and UI/UX teams to aid the Aurora Driver navigate situations with which algorithms struggle.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build a teleoperations system which allows remote operators to interact with autonomous vehicles
  • Design and implement the integration between operator commands and autonomous vehicle systems
  • Build UI tools and workflows for operators to interact with an autonomous vehicle
  • Optimize system performance over a potentially low availability mobile network

Essential

  • BS/MS or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Excellent C++ programming and software design skills
  • Linux development experience and familiarity with linux networking

Desirable

  • Autonomous vehicle experience, in particular experience in motion planning algorithms
  • Experience in mobile networking and developing applications utilizing low bandwidth mobile links
  • Experience with video encoding and streaming
  • UI/UX Experience
  • Experience in network and vehicle cybersecurity

The Founding Team

Aurora has assembled the most experienced leadership team in the space. Chris Urmson helped lead Carnegie Mellon’s efforts in Darpa’s Grand Challenges, then was a founding member of Google’s self-driving team. Sterling Anderson worked on the tech at MIT before leading Tesla’s Autopilot system. Drew Bagnell, also a Carnegie Mellon alum, is a machine learning expert who helped build Uber’s autonomy effort. At Aurora, these three continue to bring experts from all areas of the industry to the team. We are funded by some of Silicon Valley’s best venture capital firms, including Greylock, Sequoia Capital, and Amazon.
