Aurora hires people who want to build the future of transportation. We are searching for a Thermal Engineer. He/She will work closely with our Product Design, Electrical and Systems Engineering teams to analyze and design thermal solutions for our self-driving hardware platform.

Responsibilities

  • Develop thermal solutions for autonomous vehicle hardware from architecture-to-production
  • Collaborate with Aurora hardware and software teams to develop product requirements and specifications
  • Optimize design and performance with analytical and computational models
  • Verify models and evaluate design by developing prototypes and executing validation plans- this will require collaboration with test engineering and extensive lab work
  • Evaluate and report test data to refine design and system integration accordingly
  • Develop component and system requirements based on vehicle, safety, performance, reliability, and customer requirements
  • Work with hardware platform partners to optimize Aurora design for high-volume production

Essential

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering (thermal systems preferred)
  • 5+ years of industry thermal design and validation experience (electronics and integrated circuits preferred)
  • Strong first principle understanding of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics
  • Ability to perform hand calculations and build analytical models for first-order design
  • Expertise developing CFD and numerical simulations of fluid systems (ANSYS preferred)
  • Experience selecting and evaluating thermal system components including fans, pumps, heat spreaders, and thermal interface materials
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross functional teams

Desirable

  • Software competency in Python, Labview, Excel
  • Experience with CAD packages (CATIA)
  • Experience optimizing thermal designs for acoustic and NVH constraints
  • Strong presentation and communication skills for driving critical design decisions
