Hello, World! Codecademy has helped over 45 million people from around the world upgrade their careers with engaging, accessible, and flexible education on programming and data skills. We provide over 200 hands-on interactive lessons ranging from Python to R to Javascript and everything in between. Our learners have gone on to start companies, new jobs, and new lives thanks to what they’ve learned with Codecademy, and we’re thrilled to be working to take that impact to the next level.

Codecademy was started in 2011 by two college students in a dorm room at Columbia that were frustrated by the huge gap between education and employment. A few years later, we are a rapidly growing, diverse team of 100+ in SoHo, NYC. We’ve raised over $40m in venture capital funding from top investors including Union Square Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, Naspers, Y Combinator, and more.

If you want to help build a business that impacts tens of millions of people each year and helps them lead better lives, join us!

The Design Contractor, Curriculum works with the Curriculum team at Codecademy to turn art requests from curriculum developers into clear, informative, and visually appealing diagrams and animations to be included in courses and learning paths on the site.

These art requests can be very diverse in their nature. The Design Contractor will be expected to handle requests ranging for a diagram of a specific graph, a GIF showing a graphical representation of a sorting method, an interactive web front-end, and illustrations of a cartoon character design to be included as an avatar in an introductory lesson, so adaptability is a must.

  • Represent abstract technical concepts with engaging visuals
  • Work with Curriculum Developers to define the visual identity of individual Codecademy Courses

What you’ll need:

  • Demonstrable skills in illustration and design
  • Ability to create smooth animations and gifs
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Figma, Illustrator, or similar software.

What will make you stand out:

  • Familiarity with Jira or similar project management software.
  • Experience making technical diagrams for educational products
  • Experience with long-form animation and video editing software
