As the first design hire at Elementl, you will be a champion for design thinking throughout our work.
You are excited about the opportunity to create design systems for a developer tools company whose engineers care deeply about user experience and the design of programmatic interfaces.
You will work with our frontend engineers to deliver experiences that respect the discipline of our users’ day-to-day work, viewing product design holistically, within a broader context that includes the entire user journey from awareness to ops, as well as the community of open source contributors and users.
You know when to bring structured process to a problem, when to cultivate intuition, and when to roll your sleeves up and think by doing. You have a wide range of tools at your disposal, from user interviews and usability testing, to wireframing, journey mapping, and prototyping.
You are eager for the flexibility and responsibility of the design role at a small company. You will wear many hats, and you’ll engage external partners when they can accelerate your work.
We’re excited to see strong portfolios from a range of backgrounds. What’s important to us is your awareness of context, empathy for users, and understanding of design’s role in shaping a new product category.
This is a full-time, competitively paid position with benefits. Given the current public health situation, our team is all-remote for the foreseeable future. If and when members of the team return to in-person work, you’ll have the option of remaining remote or joining us in our downtown San Francisco or Minneapolis offices.
Work with a great team
We’re a small, well-funded, and collegial team with a proven track record of shipping open source software with global adoption, looking for creative, curious, effective, and empathetic people. We put a premium on respectful, clear, and complete communication.
We shape our tools, and our tools shape us. We believe deeply that the right tools and abstractions enable not just technological transformation, but also organizational transformation.
We strive to put the user and their hard work at the center of our decision making. In practice, that means we are looking for writers who focus on clarity and empathy, and who always try to understand user needs when creating content.
All of our open source work is done publicly. You can gain context about how we collaborate as a team and the problems we work on by exploring our Phabricator instance and looking at our code reviews.
Dagster is built in Python and TypeScript to work on macOS, Posix, and Windows. We use GraphQL, Apollo, and React to develop beautiful frontend tooling. We integrate with a wide range of databases, data warehouses, orchestration engines, compute substrates, and cloud services.
You Belong Here
We are committed to building an inclusive team and an open source community where no one feels out of place.
It’s more fun and interesting to work with a wide variety of perspectives. Teams with diverse backgrounds state their assumptions more explicitly, think more rigorously, and build better software.
And it’s good for everyone when underrepresented people get involved in the early stages of growth companies (and the access to capital, expertise, and network that comes with that involvement).
We strongly encourage people from groups that are presently underrepresented in software engineering to apply.
You should apply to work at Elementl if you want to work in, and help to build and strengthen, a high-performing software development environment where people of all backgrounds are welcome.
