You’re responsible for developing and managing thought leadership content. You’ll be brainstorming, writing, editing blog posts, articles and other content that informs and engages our customers and future prospects. You’ll also be playing a role in bringing the Expel voice to life through experiences and events. In this role, you’ll work closely with Expel’s analysts, engineers and key spokespeople across the organization, as well as with the corporate and product marketing teams.

As the Content and Communications Specialist at Expel, there won’t really be a typical day...but if there was one it might involve some combination of the following: leading a brainstorm to develop new blog content ideas, reviewing our CTO’s deck for an upcoming speaking gig, copyediting a marketing campaign email, nudging others to meet their deadlines for our latest piece of opt-in content, interviewing a Expel executive to draft an op-ed and checking Google Analytics to see how your efforts are increasing awareness of Expel and what you can do to make them even better.

What Expel can do for you

  • Let you highlight topics, themes and issues that are largely ignored by the conventional tech marketing approaches other companies take
  • Open up access to an engaged and entertaining team of content contributors
  • Provide you with space to try new things and go where the story (and our audience) take you
  • What you can do for Expel
  • Develop content that tells the stories of our customers, Expel and the bad actors we all chase from new perspectives that go beyond the tired cliches that dominate news coverage (aka, the “attacker” in the hoodie) and self-serving vendor marketing.
  • Increase awareness of Expel by bringing alive our employees’ insights, talent, expertise and wit in words, pictures and videos that resonate with the cybersecurity community.
  • Act as an internal advocate for our audience to make sure any content we produce is of the highest quality and something they’ll care about.
  • Generate ideas and then draft, edit and produce thought leadership content.
  • Identify influential places where Expel experts and our customers can speak; submit speaking requests and work with speakers around the company to develop and refine their presentations.
  • Serve as the Expel crew’s go-to “Expel voice” expert for both external and internal communications.
  • What you should bring with you
  • Excellent writing and editing skills along with an ability to ask questions that gather unexpected answers
  • Ability to take complex ideas and rapidly distill them down to key concepts that are easily understood by a lay audience
  • Creative thinking balanced with the skill to pop into a spreadsheet to analyze metrics
  • Strong project management and collaboration skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects with tight deadlines
  • A curious mindset with a love of learning new things
  • A Meticulous attention to detail … especially when it comes to editing
  • 3-5 years professional experience in a communications or writing/editing role … bonus points if you’ve got experience in the security industry
  • A Bachelor’s degree or a compelling story
