What’s the opportunity?

We are looking for a Manager, Brand Design to help grow our Outbound Demand Generation creative dependencies while managing and mentoring a growing team of Brand Designers. The Manager, Brand Design will be responsible for enabling and delivering high-quality creative for various Brand Studio asks including (but not limited to) direct mail campaigns, company events, print campaigns, out-of-home campaigns, digital advertising, deck-design, sales enablement, as well as various internal requests.

The ideal candidate will be capable of enabling their team to deliver high-quality (on-brand) creative, as well as personally taking lead on higher impact projects, when necessary. The role will also be responsible for art directing and managing external resources including agency support as well as the occasional freelance creative resource (design, motion, and illustration, etc).

The role will work alongside a team of creative managers and peers, making up the Intercom Brand Studio, all focused on various creative disciplines such as Web, Core Brand, Creative Copywriting, as well as Creative Operations. This team of creatives will report directly to the Director of Brand Studio.

What will I be doing?

  • Managing - Brand Designers as well as freelance agencies and creatives (design, motion, illustration).
  • Art Directing -  Working with the core team as well as freelance creatives to ensure you’re delivering work that is high quality, on-brand, delivered on time, and meeting the needs of the brief.
  • Coaching - Enabling individuals on the team to develop clear career development goals and actionable plans on how to achieve those goals by setting and defining expectations.
  • Leading - Clear comprehension of Intercom’s growth and strategic goals, helping to guide the design team to make educated decisions that align with that of the company.
  • Overseeing - Working (in partnership with our Brand Producers) to make sure your team’s projects are high-quality, on-brief, and on-brand (oh, and on time!).
  • Collaborating - Working with cross-functional partners (Product Marketing, Demand Generation, Campaigns, Content, Product Education, etc) to deliver projects that meet the needs of the goals of the organization.

What skills do I need?

  • 6-8 years working as a designer, preferably with in-house startup experience. The desire and ability to develop genuine relationships with people in service to help enable their growth and success at Intercom and beyond. A drive to grow as a people manager with strong goal setting, career trajectory, and performance assessment skills to be used to help shape a growing team.
  • A background in design with experience rooted in process and systems-oriented design thinking.
  • Ability to communicate with precision, clarity, honesty, and respect.
  • A general understanding of business goals and strategy.
  • A general understanding of performance and growth marketing.
  • Ability to affect change.
  • A growth mindset. Willingness to own problems. Comfort with ambiguity. A desire to make things better.
