What’s the opportunity?

Intercom’s Brand Studio is looking for an experienced systems and/or interactive design manager who can lead the brand with fresh ideas across our web channels. Reporting to the Brand Director, you’ll manage a team of 2-5 web/interactive designers and work closely with producers, writers, and engineers to improve and maintain a flexible, cohesive, and componentized web system between Figma and React.

This web focused role sits inside and collaborates primarily with the Brand studio, our San Francisco-based team which works on projects that span digital, print, environmental, physical goods, and everything in between. We believe our best work is ahead of us (through collaboration with you!).

The team has spent the last couple years building the process and bones of a scalable web system, and now we’re looking for our next leader to strategize, problem solve, and push things creatively. The ideal candidate has experience mentoring or managing, is up to date with modern web best practices, and has the depth of experience to create a brand experience that speaks to Intercom’s one of a kind customer support product.

What will I be doing?

  • Coach, mentor, and manage the careers of junior, senior, and principal level web designers
  • Construct meaningful layout narratives through ideation, wireframing, and prototyping
  • Bring concepts to hifi through detail oriented design, storyboarding, utilizing the brand system, gathering feedback, and collaborating with motion designers or engineers
  • Maintain, challenge, and iterate on our web component system
  • Push for innovative brand work that delights our customers and meets company goals
  • Juggle priorities across partnerships and marketing priorities
  • Push the brand forward with fresh ideas across immersive experiences
  • Art direct high visibility landing pages with designers, copywriters, researchers, and animators

What skills do I need?

  • 6+ years of design experience, 4 of those years designing for web/digital
  • Management experience preferred
  • Ability to confidently scope and produce a landing page from concept to pixel-perfect execution
  • Ability to detect problems, write briefs, and construct impactful stories
  • Non-competitive mindset, with empathy for your team’s development paths
  • Detail-oriented, strategic and systems-level thinking
  • Clear, honest, and respectful communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Figma and Adobe CC experience required, motion design skills or CSS/Javascript competency is a plus
