About Motorway

Motorway is the UK’s fastest-growing used car marketplace - our online-only platform connects private car sellers with thousands of verified dealers nationwide, ensuring everyone gets the best deal. Founded in 2017, our award-winning, technology-led approach has redefined the experience of selling a car. Motorway is backed by some of the world’s leading technology investors, having raised £143 million in Series C funding.

This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing scale-up at a crucial phase of growth and help change an industry for the better.

About the role

We’re looking for several high-potential Junior Full Stack Engineers who are eager to learn and grow within our team. This is a junior-level role offered as a 1-year fixed-term contract, designed to give you a structured foundation in professional software engineering, with the potential to transition into a permanent role at the end of the year.

We are a TypeScript-first organisation, with Python for AI and ML applications, but are open to applicants who have only used other languages. Even if you haven't coded professionally before, if you want to build high-quality solutions to solve meaningful problems for real users while growing your skills then we want to hear from you.

At Motorway, we know the importance of delivering high-quality, valuable solutions quickly, and we recognise the ability for AI tools and agents to accelerate our work. We provide our engineers with access to the latest models through Kiro and encourage everyone to use these tools - so an interest in using the latest AI-assisted approaches is a must for this role.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Learn and Adapt: Pair with senior engineers to understand our codebase and development practices.

  • Ship real code as part of a team: Collaborate as part of a cross-functional team to contribute to and maintain the Motorway platform, from building responsive UI components to creating serverless backend API endpoints.

  • Develop with AI-assistance: Use Kiro and other AI tools to accelerate your learning, generate boilerplate, and solve complex problems.

  • Collaborative growth: Participate in sprint ceremonies, ask questions, and receive regular feedback through 1:1s and code reviews.

What you’ll have:

Minimum Requirements

  • Passion for creating solutions to solve users’ needs.

  • Ability to code in at least one programming language.

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively within a team.

  • Interest in learning and growing as an engineer.

  • Interest in using AI tools as part of your programming workflow.

Additional or Preferred Requirements

  • Ability to code in modern Javascript or Typescript.

  • Experience working on a coding project (either a personal project or a professional project).

  • Experience in using AI tools as part of your programming workflow.

  • Desire to work across both the frontend and backend.

Our interview process

  • Application Review - Our Talent and Senior Engineering teams will carefully assess your application, and we’ll be in touch if you’re selected to progress to the next stage.

  • Assessment Centre (planned for 5th May 2026):

    • Technical Pairing & Group Exercises - Work through real-world coding challenges alongside senior Motorway engineers.

    • Culture & Behavioural Interviews - Honest conversations about how you work, what you're excited to build, and how you collaborate in a team.
