Description
About the Role
We’re looking for a highly technical Automation Infrastructure Team Lead to establish and lead a new Automation Infrastructure team.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on building the frameworks, tools, services, infrastructure, and reporting capabilities that enable QA automation engineers and developers to create, run, debug, monitor, and maintain automated tests efficiently and independently.
You will act as a platform enabler for automation across R&D, building scalable, cross-product, self-service capabilities used by hundreds of engineers and QAs to deliver high-quality automation at scale.
You will work closely with the QA Architect, automation engineers, development teams, DevOps, products, and engineering leadership to deliver a reliable automation platform using technologies such as Playwright with TypeScript, Python, and Pytest.
What You’ll Do
- Establish and lead a new Automation Infrastructure team.
- Own the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for cross-product automation frameworks, shared libraries, execution platforms, reporting systems, and self-service capabilities.
- Design and build scalable automation infrastructure used across multiple products, teams, environments, repositories, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Enable QA automation engineers and developers with reusable components, templates, tools, dashboards, CI/CD integrations, and best practices.
- Improve test execution reliability, reduce flakiness, shorten feedback loops, and increase confidence in automation results.
- Own automation visibility, including KPIs, dashboards, quality metrics, adoption tracking, reporting cadences, and stakeholder updates.
- Translate automation data into actionable insights for automation engineers, developers, product teams, QA leadership, and executives.
- Build, mentor, and grow a team of automation infrastructure engineers.
- Drive planning, estimation, tracking, delivery, adoption, and continuous improvement of automation infrastructure initiatives.
What You’ll Bring
- 6+ years of experience in software engineering, QA automation, automation infrastructure, test platform engineering, developer productivity, or a similar technical role.
- 3+ years of experience leading engineers as a Team Lead, Tech Lead, Engineering Manager, Automation Lead, or hands-on technical leader.
- Strong hands-on experience designing and building scalable automation frameworks, test infrastructure, internal developer platforms, or shared engineering tools used across multiple products, teams, and hundreds of engineers and QA users.
- Deep technical expertise with Playwright and TypeScript and/or strong experience with Python and Pytest.
- Strong understanding of automation architecture, CI/CD integration, test execution platforms, debugging, reliability, quality visibility, and scalable execution infrastructure using Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud environments.
- Experience defining automation KPIs and building dashboards, reports, or visibility tools for automation quality and engineering productivity.
- Strong project leadership skills, including planning, estimation, tracking, risk management, stakeholder communication, and defining success criteria.
- Ability to see the big picture while diving deep technically when needed.
- Excellent communication skills, strong ownership mindset, and passion for mentoring engineers.
Nice to Have
- Advanced Playwright experience, including parallel execution, trace collection, and flaky test analysis.
- Background in QA architecture, test strategy, or developer productivity.
- Familiarity with API testing, contract testing, or service virtualization.
Impact
- Establish a new Automation Infrastructure team with clear ownership and roadmap.
- Deliver a scalable, cross-product automation platform adopted across R&D.
- Enable engineers and QAs with reliable self-service frameworks, tools, dashboards, and CI/CD integrations.
- Improve automation reliability, reduce flakiness, and shorten feedback loops.
- Create trusted visibility into automation health, quality, risks, progress, and adoption.
