Do you believe that creators should have the ability to get paid for the value they give to their fans?

We do, which is why we’re building Patreon, a platform that powers membership services for creators with established followings. Patreon strives to provide creators with insight, education, and tools that make it possible to retain creative control while running their creative business, so creators can focus on creating and energizing their fanbases.

Our user base has doubled in the last year alone, and we have paid over $2 billion directly to creators on our platform. In order to support this level of growth, we’re looking for an experienced engineering leader to lead our Infrastructure group that consists of our Production Engineering, Apps Frameworks, and Developer Experience teams. These teams work together to ensure that our product engineers have great development tools, and solid primitives to build products on top of, and the teams can collectively provide a highly resilient and reliable experience to our end customers. Our infrastructure is almost entirely in AWS.

What you will do:

  • Lead multiple teams that fall under the Infrastructure group, whose charter include production engineering, developer tools, and our overall apps framework.
  • Responsible for maintaining our production, staging, and test environments on AWS through configuration automation tools
  • Think ahead and set the vision and multi-year roadmap for Patreon’s Infrastructure
  • Work with our Product Engineering team to ensure alignment of roadmaps and communicate clear boundaries with other teams
  • Make sure that our entire engineering team has the best tools and solid production primitives they need to seamlessly and efficiently ship code everyday
  • Work closely with our Security team to ensure our environments are safe and compliant
  • Partner with recruiting to help scale the Infrastructure group by actively sourcing and closing the best talent
  • Bring out the best in the individuals in your teams by enabling them to do the best work of their lives
  • Ensure our services communicate with each other seamlessly, have minimal downtime, and recover quickly
  • Have a service oriented mindset while driving excellence across the organization

Skills and experience you possess:

  • Significant technical leadership and architecture experience in software development and production engineering
  • Experience in an Infrastructure role using cloud technologies
  • Technical leadership and execution: Ability to set a long-term vision for the team and drive long-term execution towards that vision
  • Strong technical anchor: Takes a thorough approach to technical design and execution of large technical projects. Brings clarity and structure to the technical and non-technical aspects of the project
  • Shielder and communicator: Good at communicating across organizational boundaries, setting expectations with others, and interfacing with product engineering teams
  • A good people manager: Able to mentor, coach, and develop mid level and senior engineers to do the best work of their lives. Works to forge the bonds of a strong team
  • Technical ability: Willingness to be hands-on at times and looked up to for technical abilities and experience
  • Talent magnet: Track record of hiring engineers at scale
  • Security minded: Understands the importance of security and compliance when working with personal data

Who You’ll Work With:

At Patreon, you’ll join a high-performing and highly-empathetic team of people who proudly work on fulfilling our mission of funding the creative class. Our culture of creator-first, thoughtful teammates keeps work creative, stretching, and rewarding.

Our Core Behaviors:

  • Put Creators First. Patreon is nothing without our creators.
  • Achieve Ambitious Outcomes. Set, measure, and accomplish goals that deliver massive value to our creators and patrons.
  • Cultivate Inclusion. We want an environment that retains and engages the diverse teams we build.
  • Bias Towards Action. When in doubt, we take the next best step, then course correct when needed. We go out of our way to fix problems when we see them. We take ownership seriously.
  • Be Candid and Kind. Be extremely caring and extremely direct in all you do at Patreon, especially when it comes to giving positive and constructive feedback.
  • Be Curious. You don’t know it all, and that’s the fun part. Everything gets better when you’re curious. Things get more interesting, more clear, and more approachable. When you bring curiosity into the workplace, you’re growing yourself, your teammates, and Patreon as a whole.
