The team

We are a small but passionate team of 180+ based in San Francisco and Nashville. Pilot’s seasoned founding team has led companies through two prior successful startups and acquisitions (by Oracle and Dropbox). We give our employees a lot of responsibility and ownership of their work, and we hire people from a very wide range of backgrounds and experience. Our team members operate with a high degree of empathy for our customers and each other.

The role


  • Design and oversee People Operational programs, processes, and policies related to an employee life-cycle including, employee on-boarding and off-boarding, H.R. compliance, HRIS management, employee handbook development and internal mobility
  • Treat employees as internal customers with a goal of increasing employee satisfaction

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all People Operations processes and procedures related to the entire employee life-cycle; conduct regular review for optimization and scalability
  • Collaborate with other members of the People team to manage the People team help desk. Work with IT to design scalable help desk support processes and SLA’s
  • Collaborate with Payroll to respond to, and act on all regulatory notices related to employees
  • Collaborate with Payroll to execute on the state employer registration process as applicable
  • Collaborate with L&D to manage the new hire on-boarding experience, focusing on HRIS system updates; own all on-boarding processes and procedures that live in the HRIS. Continually review for scalable optimization
  • Manage the employee off-boarding process. Continually review for scalable optimization
  • Manage the HRIS system including data updates of all employee information changes and additions; ensure integrity and accuracy of People data
  • Design and implement company employee policies; develop a scalable system to ensure all policies are updated and shared
  • Collaborate with Head of people to design and launch an Employee Handbook
  • Collaborate with People team peers to design and launch a scalable employee intranet
  • Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition team to design, implement and manage an internal mobility program
  • Monitor and report on all key HR metrics; manage the design, implementation and tracking of all People team KPIs
  • Provide useful data to help guide decision making, and allow the company to scale effectively and efficiently
  • Identify and recommend methods to automate, simplify, and enhance processes, procedures, and technology to support the full cycle employee experience
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Experience and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or above) in an HR-focused field of study preferred
  • 5 years of experience as solid People Operations lead, preferably in a high growth tech environment required
  • Must be show documented proficiency in project management - from project design to evaluation required
  • Demonstrated success in meeting exceptionally high standards in a high volume, fast-paced & hands-on environment preferred
  • Attention to detail; experience with people analytics, metrics and business consulting skills preferred
  • Ability to diagnose problems with strategic thinking skills, as well as drive appropriate solutions with self-initiative preferred
  • Ability to influence managers/leaders with data-driven recommendations to improve performance, retention and employee experience preferred
  • Understanding and ability to be highly productive and influential in a matrixed management environment
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills to effectively support and connect with a diverse team
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Excellent written and presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
