We believe that the way people interact with their finances will drastically improve in the next few years. We’re dedicated to empowering this transformation by building the tools and experiences that thousands of developers use to create their own products. Plaid powers the tools millions of people rely on to live a healthier financial life. We work with thousands of companies like Venmo and SoFi, several of the Fortune 500, and many of the largest banks to make it easy for people to connect their financial accounts to the apps and services they want to use. Plaid’s network covers 11,000 financial institutions across the US, Canada, UK and Europe. Founded in 2013, the company is headquartered in San Francisco with offices in New York, Salt Lake City, Washington D.C., London and Amsterdam.

Risk Engineering is a highly cross-functional team dedicated to building the defenses, systems and user flows needed to mitigate financial losses, protect consumers, and ensure Plaid’s customers are compliant with regulatory and financial institution requirements.

In this role, you will be responsible for building the rules and machine learning models that detect high-risk behavior on the platform, as well as the mitigation tools we need in order to quickly respond to attacks. You’ll work with teams across Plaid to define and implement new defenses as our business evolves and new trends surface.

What excites you

  • Building systems that help protect Plaid, customers, and consumers from nefarious behavior.
  • Collaborating with teams across Plaid to define and implement risk policies.
  • Working across the stack backend to frontend, as well as on mobile to understand risk end-to-end.
  • Helping automate how operation teams review and respond to new or ongoing attacks.

What excites us

  • Understanding and prioritizing risk vectors quantitatively.
  • Ability to work with technical and non-technical teams.
  • Successful projects across the engineering stack that tackle fraud, abuse, spam, or trust and safety at scale.
  • Ability to balance between reducing risk and enabling business growth.
  • We're guided by our principles including impact, growing together, embracing openness and positivity, inventing tomorrow; we’re looking for team members who are motivated by those same principles.
