ABOUT THE TEAM:
The Discovery team at Rec Room owns the core systems and recommendation strategies end-to-end across all platforms. We aim to connect players to content and foster an engaging and welcoming experience (i.e, Rooms, People, Information, Items, etc)
As a Product Manager on Discovery, you will work with a cross-discipline team to build these systems across three layers (model, infra, application) and create engaging experiences for our creators and players. This will include (but is not limited to) creating and implementing a cohesive product strategy while maintaining hands-on involvement with the team's day-to-day work.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
- Own Room Discovery, which includes engagement strategies, recommendation systems, search, messaging, and matchmaking tailored to the specific characteristics of various entity types.
- Establish key outcomes for the team, such as a comprehensive monitoring system and tracking data, including writing SQL scripts as needed.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Data teams to implement and iterate on features for various entity types.
- Build trust across product teams at Rec Room to promote cross-team collaboration and coordinate with partners to achieve collective goals.
- Collaborate closely with Trust & Safety, moderation, and product teams to design and deliver end-to-end solutions and programs to address the most significant risk areas.
- Understand the big picture of how real-world harm manifests on the platform, support root cause analysis, and help to drive priorities for impactful projects.
- Be an in-house subject matter expert by staying up to date on the latest in competitive and industry trends.
- Think outside the box, taking on both Product Designs as needed to differentiate Rec Room.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of product manager experience
- 5+ years of experience developing/improving core engagement loops from the ground up
- 5+ years of experience working on search and discovery products, including products involving machine learning, ranking, and signal building
- In-depth understanding of the content recommendation process and basic principles.
- Experience writing queries or manipulating data using SQL/Python/R) to opportunity size, inform long-term roadmaps, experiment, learn, and iterate.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to communicate with and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization toward shared goals or objectives.
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience working with PR or marketing to build external communication plans
- Experience working in the games industry and on what motivates players
- Experience building & growing social products such as friending/following systems, feeds, and people search.
- Experience with driving player value through messaging/CRM systems
- Experience working with strategy products such as content strategy, scheduling strategy, etc
