Why is the Assistant Controller important to us?

The Assistant Controller will be a key enabler in the team’s efforts to drive operational efficiency, increase analytics and deliver timely and accurate financial information to internal and external constituencies. This role is responsible for providing high-level support to the Controller as they manage Shapeways’ accounting and financial activities. The Assistant Controller must have a strong technical accounting background, and will be responsible for producing financial summary statements and correcting inaccuracies in financial records. This role reports directly to the Controller.

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare and consolidate financial statements
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting and identify solutions to discrepancies in financial records
  • Supervise accounts receivable, accounts payable, revenue and general accounting
  • Research accounting issues for compliance with GAAP
  • Provide monthly, quarterly and year-end analyses
  • Serve as liaison to external auditors
  • Coordinate and assist with the preparation of the budget and financial forecast
  • Manage and comply with local state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Coordinate and assist with preparation of regulatory reporting including annual and periodic reviews and audits


You might be a good fit if (you have/are):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • 5+ years of accounting experience; public or private
  • CPA preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, US GAAP accounting and financial close processes, and SOX requirements.
  • The ability to build strong relationships and collaborate across various functions including FP&A,HR, and Legal.
  • Technical accounting experience
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Must be comfortable working independently and in a team environment
  • Experience with various accounting software; Netsuite a plus.
