Why is the SVP, Technology important to us?

Shapeways is looking for an SVP, Technology to lead and oversee the strategic direction and vision of our technology suite. While working closely with the Executive team and senior leadership, the SVP of Technology will lead, mentor, and nurture a growing diverse team of engineers across the US and the Netherlands.

The SVP, Technology will be responsible for evaluating and iterating on our current tech stack, making recommendations on the future structure of App Dev, DevOps, and IT teams and technologies. This person will have multiple direct reports and lead a function focused on continuous improvement and growth. This role reports directly to our CEO, Greg Kress.

In this role, you will:

  • Set the technical vision and direction in partnership with the CEO, and develop plans and timelines for the development of all platform/software-based systems
  • Lead, inspire and optimize a growing team of technologists responsible for building highly available, resilient, and scalable applications
  • Drive a culture of operational excellence through automation and engineering standards
  • Manage the senior engineering team members and focus on recruiting a best-in-class diverse engineering team
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders across Shapeways corporate and manufacturing facilities in the US and the Netherlands
  • Serve on the leadership team as a voice of technology
  • Own the P&L for all engineering efforts in 2022 and beyond


You might be a good fit if (you have/are):

  • BSc/BA in computer science, engineering, or relevant field; MSc/MA will be preferred
  • 15+ years of managing a team of engineers delivering highly available applications and infrastructure solutions; must have experience managing websites and applications written in Java, Javascript, PHP and WordPress, databases, cloud infrastructure, and IT management tools
  • Demonstrated success in running highly available production systems within a complex technology environment
  • Proven ability to select top talent and create a productive environment that promotes initiative, innovation, continual learning, and development of engineers for future advancement
  • Experience managing and motivating a dispersed international team across multiple time zones
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for a wide range of audiences; which could include IC’s, front line managers, and C-level leaders
  • In-depth knowledge of engineering best practices and architecture/design
  • Experience in a manufacturing and/or SaaS environment is highly preferred
