Data is critical to Wealthfront’s success. For example, our data includes the financial details of our clients, which our products use to help our clients make the best financial decisions for themselves. Our data also includes the details of Wealthfront products and the business, which we use to make important company decisions. As a Wealthfront Data Engineer, you will help build and maintain the company’s core datasets. You will collaborate with stakeholders around the company, within Engineering, Product, Data Science, Marketing, Finance, etc. You will work with them to understand the details of the data that they produce and consume, and to understand and shape the specifics of their metrics and analyses. We value automation. You will invest in building systems which yield automated confidence in our data. As part of an agile team, you will prioritize the highest impact work and you will take ownership of the outcomes of the projects you work on.
As a Data Engineer, you will:
- Collaborate with and enable data scientists, analysts, product managers, and business functions by curating the datasets that they require.
- Model the business data layer (normalized and denormalized) that will expose data in terms of business entities.
- Design, build and deploy scalable and reliable data pipelines (using SQL and other languages) to move and transform data to create business entities.
- Maintain a data catalog of business entities and their attributes to help others understand data semantics.
- Be extremely vigilant and proactive about data quality. Data quality as measured by axes like completeness, consistency, and timeliness should be of paramount importance to you and you should be quantitative in your focus on it.
- Manage reporting and dashboarding tools being used by colleagues across the company to transform data into meaningful insights.
- Help define and maintain company wide metrics and deploy them with data quality checks.
- Build a new best-of-breed data access layer on top of the data platform (Presto/Athena, S3, Redshift) to expose data to all stakeholders.
- Become a subject matter expert in various areas of Wealthfront data, including within domains such as clickstream, product usage, and client financials.
- Work within a team of Data Engineers working together to deliver timely, high quality implementations within the company’s scrum process.
