WhiteHat is a tech start-up on a mission to create a diverse group of future leaders by building an outstanding alternative to university through apprenticeships. Having recently raised a $16m Series A venture round led by Index Ventures, with participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners and Salesforce Ventures, we are on a rapid growth trajectory and have doubled the team to over 100 people in the past year. We are a people business inside and out and are looking for a VP People to lead the growth of our business whilst maintaining our incredible culture.

What we are looking for:

The right candidate for the VP People needs to be a culture carrier and completely aligned with all our company values. We talk about our values every day and our people team needs to be the champions of our culture and values. You will be someone who leads by example and is comfortable calling out behaviours that aren’t aligned with our values, in the spirit of being honest but kind. As a member of the executive team, you will need to go beyond focusing on the internal company needs and people ops strategy, and act as a thought-leader in the HR/People space more broadly to talk about our mission amongst your peers.

  • Partner with the founders to build a highly engaged team and a values-aligned culture
  • Develop strategy for the people operations function and an effective end-to-end employee experience strategy for our scaling business
  • Build a people operations function capable of empowering our managers and team to reach their goals through training, development and coaching. You will support performance management design and develop compensation structures across teams
  • Work with the Head of Internal Recruitment on internal headcount planning and employee development pathways
  • Support the founders on organisational design to help us scale effectively nationally and beyond
  • Analyse employee data and recruitment data to drive better practices across the organisation
  • Coach and mentor senior leadership and founder direct reports as the company grows
  • Act as a thought leader within the HR and People community to set WhiteHat up as a leader in this space and to support our business development efforts


About You

  • You’ve been an influential part of a fast-paced scaleup company that’s grown rapidly and have the experience of building a company and a people ops function for a business going from 100-500+ employees
  • You have a pragmatic approach to HR - you’re empathetic, compassionate, effective and commercial
  • You are an inspiring people leader, a great manager and a thought leader in the people space
  • You are strategic and have strong prioritisation skills. You pride yourself on your attention to detail and never dropping the ball. You understand that you can only expect excellence if you demonstrate it yourself as a leader
  • A strong background in HR and demonstrated experience of dealing with topics ranging from performance management to employment law

This role will be reporting to our President and will be a key member of our executive leadership team helping lead us on our journey to building an outstanding alternative to university.
