We want to build an iconic company that becomes one of the great European businesses of our generation.

By delivering training in partnership with world-class content providers, through a combination of 1:1 coaching and cutting-edge tech, we offer apprenticeships that rival the learning experience at elite universities. We work with some of the world’s top employers such as Sky, Google, Facebook and BP to help them access incredible, ambitious and diverse non-graduate talent.

We believe communications will be absolutely critical to the success of the business. We’re looking for an experienced, entrepreneurial Communications Director to work with the founders and the business to communicate the vision of WhiteHat and to support the growth of our brand to relevant stakeholders from candidates to teachers, employers to government. Our ambition is that WhiteHat becomes synonymous with high quality apprenticeships that the WhiteHat brand is seen as prestigious as going to a top university.

As Director of Communications you will be responsible for:

  • Setting our communications strategy and positioning
  • Leading execution across all channels (media, social, events, website, etc)
  • Managing all media relationships
  • Effectively communicating the positive business and social impact of apprenticeships to employers
  • Develop creative and FUN ways to engage with young people, their parents and teachers, ensuring WhiteHat is front of mind for young people looking to launch their careers through apprenticeships
  • Helping WhiteHat become thought leaders on Future of Talent and Future of Work and leading the conversation around apprenticeship policy in the UK.
  • Working with the team to develop compelling employer and candidate case studies
  • Raising the profile of the founders and the broader team
  • Managing our speaking engagements
  • Managing any future agency relationships (macro/thought leadership and employers focused PR agency + youth agency)
  • Advising the company on the communication implications of policy and operational decisions.

We are looking to grow beyond the UK in the next couple of years and this person will be responsible for thinking about our launch comms strategy internationally.


  • An appetite for work. The hyper growth of WhiteHat and the fact we are seen as thought leaders in the Future of Work and Future of Talent spaces means that this is a ‘full on’ job.
  • An enthusiasm for up to the minute, difficult media issues. This includes a desire to pick up the phone to journalists and to form strong relationships with them. Business editors, HR/Talent journalists, political journalists and tech correspondents are all highly relevant.
  • You’re excited about developing channels to communicate with Gen Z and Millennial users (and the people in their lives who influence their decision making) and you recognise that traditional media isn’t going to be your main route to engaging with this audience.
  • Excellent, thoughtful judgement and experience in strategic communications
  • A commitment to excellence in everything they do and a desire to constantly raise the bar with the standards they set
  • An eye for a creative idea that will get media attention, and the ability to translate that into an activation that resonates with our audience
  • A track record of landing stories in tier one media and a talent for knowing how to create engaging hooks and control the narrative
  • Experience working directly with founders and with VC firms
  • A proactive attitude and a desire to help make decisions right across the business, including commercial and operational decisions
