Sujata Bhatia is an Executive in Residence at Index Ventures, where she supports founders as they scale their companies and leadership teams.
During her five years as COO of Monzo, she helped turn around the business and then led it through rapid growth and profitability. In addition to scaling the company’s operating model, her remit spanned growth, operations, marketing, design, brand, people, and risk. Before Monzo, Sujata spent 15 years at American Express in senior global roles across consumer and B2B businesses, holding both general management and functional leadership roles across payments, product, rewards, marketing, and partnerships.
Sujata enjoys working with ambitious founders on the challenges that emerge as companies scale: building leadership teams, evolving structures, sharpening operating rhythms, and delivering standout customer experiences alongside commercial performance. Across fintech and consumer and small business platforms, she has particular experience in building distinctive brands and driving rapid growth in complex, regulated environments.
Outside of work, she loves theatre, travel, watching her favourite Boston sports teams, and spending time with her husband and two daughters.
