Plaid’s Communications team is responsible for building and protecting Plaid’s reputation, shaping our company narrative, driving awareness of our products and impact, and ensuring we show up with clarity and credibility across moments that matter. We partner closely with Product, Marketing, Corporate Affairs, and Leadership to tell the stories that earn trust with customers, partners, press, policymakers, and the broader fintech ecosystem, while also helping align employees around our strategy and priorities. We’re looking for an Executive Editorial Lead to own the editorial function for Plaid’s highest-impact voices and translate strategy and technical concepts into compelling, defensible content across formats. This person will build credible thought leadership, sourcing real-world inputs, pressure-testing claims, and creating flagship editorial moments (from marquee reports to LinkedIn series and audio/video) that define Plaid’s point of view on AI, risk, credit underwriting, payments, and the future of financial innovation.
Responsibilities:
- Own the executive editorial function for Plaid’s highest-impact voices (CEO, CTO, and Product Area Leads). Translate strategy and technical concepts into clear, compelling content across formats that lands with customers, partners, and the broader industry.
- Build credible thought leadership. You’ll source real-world inputs (data, customer realities, trends, etc), pressure-test claims, and publish POVs that are specific enough to build trust.
- Create and lead flagship editorial moments that define Plaid’s perspective on AI, risk, credit underwriting, payments, and financial innovation across long-form, short-form, and audio/video content.
- Stand up exec editorial system: Establish and drive content calendar, intake process from subject matter experts and execs, drafting/editing workflow, reviews, publishing cadence, and measurement.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience as a journalist, executive speechwriter, or senior communications/content lead.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a portfolio of executive and thought leadership work.
- Experience writing for C-level executives and translating complex financial/technical topics into accessible narratives.
- Strong understanding of financial technology, payments, risk, and digital transformation.
- Exec partnership and stakeholder management under time pressure (ability to incorporate feedback, push back, and still ship).Ability to balance journalistic rigor with brand strategy.
- Preferred Experience with long-form content and video publishing

The target base salary for this position ranges from $193,200/year to $268,800/year [in Zone 1]. The target base salary will vary based on the job's location.
Our geographic zones are as follows:
Zone 1 - San Francisco / New York City / Seattle
Zone 2 - Los Angeles / Washington DC / Austin / Boston / Sacramento / San Diego
Zone 3 - Atlanta / Portland / Chicago / Philadelphia / Denver / Miami / Dallas / Raleigh
Zone 4 - All other US cities
The base salary range listed for this full-time position excludes commission (if applicable), equity and benefits. The pay range shown on each job posting is the minimum and maximum target for new-hire salaries. Actual pay may be higher or lower depending on factors like skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
