Staff Data Engineer - Data Platform

About the Role

Capitolis is a leading financial technology company that optimizes capital markets through innovative technology solutions. We work with the world's largest financial institutions to improve capital efficiency and reduce risk in their operations.

We're building an enterprise-wide data platform to unify data from across our applications and systems. We're looking for a Staff Data Engineer to architect and build our AWS + Snowflake data lakehouse, integrate diverse data sources, and enable AI agents to deliver insights to internal teams and external users.

You'll be the technical leader establishing our data infrastructure from the ground up — building pipelines, setting engineering standards, and creating patterns the team can scale. You'll report to our head of DevOps.

What You'll Do

• Build the data platform: Design and implement our data lake on AWS (S3, Glue, Lake Formation) with Snowflake as the analytics layer

• Enterprise integrations: Create robust pipelines ingesting data from finance systems, applications, and third-party sources using CDC and API integrations

• Enable AI-driven insights: Build semantic layers and APIs that allow AI agents to query and analyze data securely

• Optimize for scale: Implement performance tuning, cost optimization, and data quality monitoring across the platform

• Establish best practices: Define data modeling patterns, governance frameworks, and engineering standards

• Mentor and lead: Guide engineers on data platform architecture and implementation

Requirements

Must-Have:

• 8+ years in data engineering with 5+ years building data platforms

• Deep expertise with AWS data services: S3, Glue, Lake Formation, IAM, Step Functions/MWAA

• Production experience with Snowflake: Snowpipe, virtual warehouses, RBAC, performance optimization

• Strong Python and SQL skills with focus on data processing and optimization

• Experience integrating enterprise systems (ERP, CRM, finance platforms)

• Built real-time or near real-time data pipelines (CDC, streaming)

Strongly Preferred:

• LLM/agent integration with data platforms (semantic layers, API design)

• Data governance and security implementation at scale

• Change Data Capture tools (Glue DMS, Debezium, Fivetran)

• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)

Nice to Have:

• Kinesis or Kafka for streaming data

• Vector databases for AI/ML applications

• Open source contributions to data tools
